DISTRICT COUNCIL SHAMBLES
The thoughts of a Forest resident as published on the internet!
Saturday, 28th July 2012
It seems such a long time ago that we elected a hung council in the Forest of Dean – believe it or not its only 14 months and what a shambles we have had to put up with ever since. They almost make the Westminster government look well organised they are so bad.
- Despite a 7000 strong petition and many representations against introducing car parking charges they were introduced and started wrecking our town centres on 1st July.
- The cost of the new bins for the waste collection system was £834,755 and to advertise the system the council has so far spent £91,705. Judging by the confusion in Cinderford this week they’ll be spending a lot more in trying to explain the system.
- The Cinderford Regeneration scheme is being promoted by the council despite the fact that it will have a massive detrimental effect on other parts of the area, in particular Berry Hill/Five Acres.
In some cases the Labour Group and the Independents support the 5 ringleaders who make up the Cabinet (all Cons). There are some notable exceptions but at the moment too few to make enough of a difference.
Do we really have to wait 3 more years to get a council that listens to the people of the Forest of Dean? Wouldn’t it be better for all if they resigned now and allowed us to vote for people with common sense that we need to sort out these dreadful mistakes.
To slightly misquote Cromwell “You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of the Forest of Dean, go.”
